IDEA Joins MLK Day Driving for Justice Parade

Each year in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, MSP’s Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Alliance (IDEA) organizes or joins a local event for the community to attend together. This year, IDEA members decided to join the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force, Inc. for their Peace Parade – “Driving for Justice.” Jasmine Perin (MA with ABA) is this year’s IDEA President. Below she introduces herself and talks about the Parade.

During my first semester, I attended the informational sessions and learned about some of the changes IDEA has created around campus and I knew I had to be a part of that! Although I was extremely nervous, I took a leap of faith then I applied and assumed the role of president.

The presidential position was appealing to me because I enjoy taking multiple perspectives and creating a program, using a democratic approach to things, and supporting the team as much as I can. I feel like my best self when I can serve the community and although the pandemic has halted some of that, IDEA still makes a way. I enjoy this role because while I may be the leader, the rest of the executive board members are truly talented and fired up to create change and support the community!

IDEA will be supporting the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force, Inc. for their Peace Parade – “Driving for Justice.” The MLK Task Force is an all-volunteer grassroots civic organization that has held events for MLK day since 1986! This year, the MLK Task Force has made it possible for us to honor his legacy, safely with a driving parade.

“Driving for Justice” is a free event that will take place on January 18, 2021, at 9:30 am. Pre-registration is required, so if you are interested, please register ASAP at http://www.mlktaskforcemi.org/

We encourage you to make posters with your families to represent MSP and to place in your car windows! IDEA will have supplies on hand upon arrival for you to make a sign inside your vehicle if needed. Due to COVID-19 MLK task force and IDEA is requiring that everyone remain in their own vehicles.

Once you have registered, please reach out and let us know! Everyone is invited to join us. We look forward to seeing our MSP community show up for this important event.
