Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year!

MSP President Dr. Spitsbergen welcomes us back to campus for the beginning of a new academic year.

I want to welcome you all to the 2023-2024 academic year! For those of you who are new this year, we are honored that you chose MSP to be a part of your academic journey. To our returning students, my hope is that you had a well-deserved and restful break.

This week marks the first week of in-person classes, but the semester officially kicked off last week with a full schedule of events during Prep Week including orientation, program meetings, training, and Engagement Day. Last Thursday the faculty and staff received 77 new students at orientation. As I looked around at the atrium buzzing with energy as students, faculty, and staff introduced themselves during icebreaker activities, I could tell that this academic year was already off to a great start.

Over the summer break, MSP was hard at work making improvements to the physical building spaces for your benefit. We added a dedicated testing space for our practicum students at the Michigan School Psychological Clinic in Building B. We also renovated the library based on the feedback we received from students last year about how they would like to use the space. The look and feel of the library have completely changed as we added more welcoming individual and work group study spaces. I invite you to stop by to see it for yourself the next time you are on campus.

I believe my colleagues here at MSP would all agree that we are looking forward to serving you here at MSP this year. The work you do here today will make a significant impact on the future of society and we are looking forward to being a part of your journey.

Have a fantastic year!

Dr. Spitsbergen
