What made you decide to pursue a degree in psychology?
There are two experiences that informed by career choice in psychology. My undergraduate degree was Special Education. As a special education teacher, I became very interested in the work of the school psychologists. Primarily, I was impressed by positive changes I noticed in students who were in therapy. In my early career years, I entered therapy as a client and benefitted in significant ways. It was at this time that I realized that I wanted to be a facilitator in processes of intrapersonal growth.
What do you think led you to teach at MSP?
I loved my experience as a student at the Center for Humanistic Studies. Upon graduation, I hoped that I could return some day as a faculty member. My wish came true!
What’s your favorite part of teaching?
Witnessing and being a part of the personal and professional growth processes of students. I love the teaching and learning exchange that happens between my students and me. It is a two way process. When I teach, my students and I simultaneously share the roles of teacher and learner.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I am very adventurous! Some of my favorite vacations have included traveling off the beaten path, scuba diving, and extreme bicycling. I am going luging soon!
What’s your favorite kind of music?
I listen to jazz, classic rock, even country music on occasion.
What do you do in your free time?
I love to cook, read, work out, and travel as often as possible. In the winter, I enjoy snow shoeing. During spring, summer, and fall, I cycle.
