Headshot of Dr. Brian StognerDear MSP Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brian Stogner as the Michigan School of Psychology’s fifth president. We are confident that Dr. Stogner is the innovative, decisive, strategic, and energetic leader with a deep commitment to the value and importance of higher education our community sought in its national search.

Currently the president and CEO of Rochester Christian University (formerly known as Rochester University and Rochester College), Dr. Stogner has had a long career in higher education. He first served in the roles of faculty, department chair, vice president and provost, before becoming president of Rochester Christian University in 2016.

Dr. Stogner is a first-generation college student, earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan-Flint and master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Wayne State University. He was a practicing psychologist for over 20 years in southeast and central Michigan in private practice, university, and medical settings.

Dr. Stogner’s tenure as president will begin on January 1, 2025. He will be working closely with current leadership throughout the fall semester to prepare for his new role. You may see him on campus periodically during this time to attend events and activities.

President Dr. Spitsbergen will continue to lead the institution through the fall semester and assist in preparations for a successful transition. The Board of Trustees thanks him for his dedicated service and support to MSP these past two years.

This announcement is the culmination of a thorough national search process guided by the work of our presidential search committee. The Board of Trustees would like to express our gratitude to the members of the presidential search committee and to each and every individual member of our campus community who participated in the candidate interviews. Your feedback and perspective were critical to the Board’s decision-making process.

We look forward to working with Dr. Stogner and all that we will accomplish together under his leadership in the future.

Sincerely,
