Scholarships

Incoming MA Student – $1,000;  Incoming PsyD Student – $2,000

This scholarship honors the late Cereta Perry, PhD, co-founder of CHS/MSP, and her contributions to diversity in education. Dr. Perry was a lifelong advocate of MSP and its mission. This scholarship was established to recruit and support the academic goals of diverse incoming Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) students. This scholarship is awarded following review of first semester academic performance and is distributed in the form of a tuition credit in the second semester. Click here for application.

This scholarship honors Jill Benton, former MSP librarian and alum, and her commitment to humanistic psychology. The JBHPS supports a PsyD student who is committed to advancing the science and practice of humanistic psychology as demonstrated by excellence in scholarship. Click here for application.

All full-time PsyD students and students in full-time internships may apply. Eligibility criteria:

• Demonstration of a commitment to the values of humanistic psychology.
• Demonstration of a passion for learning.
• Excellence in scholarship.
• Advocacy for MSP via positive contributions to its community.

The Sidney Berkowitz Scholarship for Clinical Excellence was established in 2022 to honor Dr. Berkowitz, beloved former faculty member, esteemed clinician, and long-time supporter of the Michigan School of Psychology. Dr. Berkowitz freely gave of his time for guest lecturing on topics relevant to psychotherapy for many years following his retirement from MSP. Click here for application. 

Eligibility criteria: 

• be in good academic standing in an MA or PsyD program.
• show excellence in clinical work as demonstrated by average ratings of 4 or higher in the faculty supervisor’s evaluations of clinical training for Master of Arts students, 4.7 or higher for PsyD practicum students.
• demonstrate a commitment to clinical practice using humanistic values/principles.
• make effective use of supervisory meetings.

The Aombaye Ramsey Diversity Award (ARDA) was created in 2004 to honor Dr. Aombaye Ramsey’s lifelong commitment to social justice. This award supports a PsyD student who shares that same commitment to advocate on behalf of diversity issues. Priority will be given to applicants who belong to an ethnic, racial, or cultural group traditionally underrepresented in the field of psychology. Click here for application.

• Demonstrated promotion of diversity issues and awareness through professional presentations, clinical work and/or research.
• Expertise in working with and strong advocacy of underserved populations.
• Continuous good academic standing.

MA graduate – $1,000

The Judith R. Burdick Scholarship of Grief, Loss and Transformation was established in 2026 to honor alumna, Judith R. Burdick, LLP, who received her Master’s degree from this institution in 2002. Since then, Burdick has practiced locally as a psychotherapist, specializing in grief and loss. She is also the writer and producer of a nationally acclaimed film, entitled, ‘Transforming Loss.’

Judith R. Burdick’s skills as a therapist have literally transformed the lives of hundreds of patients over a professional career which is approaching 25 years. She has frequently appeared on local media outlets, one of whom saluted her as a ‘difference maker in the community.’ She is a shining example of a clinician who employs the principles of humanistic psychology in her practice, principles taught at our institution.

This scholarship is presented at Commencement to a graduating MA student (full or part-time). The recipient of the Judith R. Burdick Scholarship should embody resilience, compassion, and tenacity in the face of adversity. This scholarship is intended for an individual who has experienced profound loss and is actively working toward healing and growth. The recipient should demonstrate a commitment to helping others, using their own journey of grief and transformation to create meaning, inspire hope, and support those facing similar challenges.

The Marjorie Scott Scholarship for Excellence was established in January 2006 to honor Dr. Scott’s encouragement of academic excellence. This scholarship is presented at commencement to a graduating student from each academic program who has best achieved excellence in academics, clinical work, and research. • Outstanding academic achievement throughout the program.
• Active participation in the MSP community.
• Demonstrated excellence in academic performance, presentations, clinical training, scholarly projects, publications, and professional behavior.
• PsyD graduates – demonstrated excellence in dissertation.

Application deadline: June 19

MSP seeks to support students in professional opportunities that will enhance student education and future career opportunities.  Such support is confined to the enhancement of the student’s identity as a professional psychologist, and/or to increase skills and knowledge that will directly impact the student’s current or future role in the field of psychology.
