The position of president was posted nationally on May 4th. As applications are received, they are initially screened to ensure position qualifications are met by Amanda Ming in her role as Director of Human Resources. Additional screening is done by a search committee. The search committee for this position has been established and consists of:

Co-Chairs: Dr. Ryan Blackstock (Core Faculty) & Tami Jacobs (Administration/Staff)

Members: Dr. Lee Bach (Adjunct Faculty), Dr. Danielle Balaghi (Program Director), Dr. Jim Maher (Clinic), Amanda Ming (Human Resources/Staff), Ebrahim Safah (Student)

The search committee will be meeting on Tuesday, May 21st for our first meeting. This meeting will be facilitated by Amanda Ming and will consist of training related to:

  • Institutional Alignment (keeping in mind MSP’s purpose, mission, vision and values for the “fit” of any candidate)
  • How to Evaluate CV’s
  • A Tour of the Common Resume Biases
  • Best Practices in Higher Education Presidential Searches
  • Interview Questions: Do’s and Don’ts

At this meeting, the search committee will also discuss the candidate screening matrix, gather signed confidentiality agreements and answer any questions that any members may have.

The application deadline for the position is June 1st

On June 4th the search committee will meet to review candidates and decide who to move forward to a first-round interview. Candidates chosen for an interview will be contacted by Amanda Ming and scheduled for Zoom interviews the week of June 24th.

Upon completion of first-round interviews, the search committee will determine who to invite to campus for final interviews. These interviews will be scheduled the weeks of July 8 and 15Candidates will meet with the following constituent groups while on campus:

  • Board of Trustees
  • President’s Advisory Council
  • Vice Presidents
  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Students
  • Search Committee

Candidates will also be asked to give a “Vision Talk” to the community.

The Search Committee will meet to review evaluation forms gathered from all constituent groups on July 23. The goal is to submit an unranked recommendation of finalists to the Board of Trustees by the end of July 2024

Only the Board of Trustees has the authority to select the next President of MSP. Per the Michigan Legislature, “the control of the business and secular affairs of every such educational corporation shall be vested in a board of directors or trustees. Such board shall also have exclusive control over the educational affairs and policy of such institution, and as such may appoint, employ and pay the salary of a president, or principal” (MCL 450.175).

Questions regarding the searching, screening, and selecting of the President should be directed to the co-chairs of the search committee. We look forward to this process and to the involvement of all community members.
