What would people be surprised to know about you?
People might be surprised to know that at one point in time I was ranked 2nd in the nation when I used to compete in collegiate wrestling.
Name a cause you are passionate about.
Something I have a passion for is understanding mental illness and how it can affect an individual’s life. I think there is a stigma that is attached to mental health that is caused by a lack of understanding from the general public. I would like to be a catalyst in helping provide a better understanding so that we can advocate for those who do experience the hardships that can go hand-in-hand with mental illness on a broader societal level.
Why did you choose MSP?
I choose the program at Michigan School of Psychology to push myself out of my comfort zone and grow personally and professionally in the field of psychology. I have always had an interest in psychology and the real-time application of the principles to help individuals live a healthy well-balanced life physically, mentally, and emotionally. After spending a lot of time researching the master’s program, attending an informational seminar, and contemplating if this was the next step for me, I realized that MSP and I are a great fit for each other.
While attending one of the open houses provided by the program I really found the institution’s principles aligned with my own. I left the open house with the feeling that MSP and its staff really strive to create an environment that encourages students to think outside of the box in order to develop personal and professional growth. This is something that I really admire in an institution as I pride myself on being a critical thinker.
What do you want to do with your degree?
After graduating from the master’s program I would like to apply for the PsyD program at MSP. Eventually, I would like to open my own practice.
What are you most looking forward to about your program?
I am excited to take this time to learn and grow from the individuals around me in the program. I am looking forward to being surrounded by others who can provide a different perspective on the topics that will be discussed throughout the curriculum.
