Mackenzie Tresnak, PsyD (’22), LP is an adjunct faculty member providing supervision in the PsyD program.
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Royal Oak and currently live in Berkley with my husband and infant son.
What or who influenced you to study psychology?
I initially was a nursing student during undergrad and as part of the program was required to take an intro to psychology class. Nursing ended up not being my passion, but I loved the psych course I took and knew I wanted to do something to help people. From there I continued taking classes and ended up majoring in psychology.
What are your research and/or clinical interests?
My main research interests are sexual health and psycho-oncology. Clinically I enjoy assessment and brief therapy.
What appeals to you most about teaching at MSP?
I find it very rewarding to be part of student’s education and I think MSP does a wonderful job of building community with its students.
What is your favorite non-academic book, and why?
I am a big book worm, so it would be impossible to choose a favorite. But given the sometimes heavy nature of our jobs I enjoy losing myself in fantasy and fiction novels.
What advice would you like to share with current students?
What and how much you choose to put into the program is what you will get out of it. At no other point in your career will you have so much time to dedicate to learning and growing. Take advantage of that, dive in, and soak up everything you possibly can during this time.
