As an educator, my career has been centered on creating nurturing environments in the promotion of learning and growth. These values that I hold dear are grounded in humanistic principles, and practices, and have guided my 35 years of service to the Michigan School of Professional Psychology (MSP).
My service at the school began in 1980 as co-founder of the Center for Humanistic Studies and culminates now as I complete my term as President at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year. In reflection, I am both humbled by this history and celebratory of its many accomplishments. At the same time, I find myself experiencing a sense of total disbelief.
MSP is no longer that “little engine that could.” We can and we did. I have been president since 2012 and as I reflect on the past five years:
- we’ve grown our enrollment and now have 170 + students,
- achieved APA accreditation for our doctoral program,
- attained 10-year continuation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission,
- started a Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis with the relationship centered approach of humanistic psychology, and
- purchased property adjacent to MSP to develop a mental health clinic and allow for greater community outreach.
In recognition of all that has been accomplished and the amazing future that lies ahead, as we expand our campus I am challenging you to “Foster the Future” through The Diane Blau Matching Gift Campaign. I have pledged to match every dollar that you contribute, dollar for dollar, up to $150,000. These funds will be used for the construction/renovation of the building that will be home to our clinic and community outreach center.
Let’s all double our efforts and continue to provide the best in education and training for the most outstanding clinicians. Your donation shows your commitment to MSP, to the children and families that will be supported through clinic services, and also the schools and communities that will benefit from new outreach activities.
