Library Associate

The Michigan School of Psychology (MSP), located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is a dynamic, independent, not-for-profit higher education institution providing master of arts and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology and a post-master’s certificate in applied behavior analysis.

The Moustakas Johnson Library is housed in an attractive setting in the main campus building and provides access to e-resources tailored to support graduate-level teaching, learning, and scholarship in clinical psychology; a subject-specific print collection of 9,000 volumes; and a collection of psychological tests and assessment materials for training. MSP library staff provide exceptional reference services, research support, and integrated library instruction that enhance the experience of students and faculty. Library staff are valued for being highly collaborative, approachable, and creative members of the MSP community.

Job Title:                             Library Associate

Reports to:                         Vice President of Services & Operations

Supervises:                        N/A

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (others as assigned):

Circulation & Interlibrary Loan

  • Provides coverage of the circulation and reference desk.
  • Provides circulation services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Triages reference questions to librarians as appropriate.
  • Helps patrons find and use library resources, such as reference materials, course reserves, testing and assessment equipment, and provides technical assistance when needed.
  • Organizes and maintains library materials through the shelving of materials and shelf reading.
  • Fulfills interlibrary loan requests in OCLC WorldShare.

Acquisitions & Copy Cataloging

  • Manages the purchases of physical library materials and supplies.
  • Assists with the physical processing of library materials.
  • Performs copy cataloging for library materials using MARC format, Library of Congress subject headings, and Dewey Decimal classification system.
  • Adds records and bibliographic holdings to library systems including the library’s online catalog and OCLC WorldShare.

Academic Support

  • Assists in the development and publication of the textbook list each semester.
  • Assists in the syllabi review process including readings and e-coursepack
  • Assists in the maintenance of testing and assessment materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Applied Science (Library Technician), Library and Information Services/ Technology, or equivalent degree; OR 2-3 years working in a library environment with similar responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates commitment to circulating materials that are inclusive of the contributions of historically underrepresented voices in clinical psychology.
  • Demonstrates commitment to acknowledging structural barriers by serving patrons in an inclusive and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Flexible and collaborative with the ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with common library products and systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills (in particular Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Salary:

$42,000

Benefits:     

The Library Associate position is a full-time position with benefits. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, retirement benefits (after one year of service), flexible spending account, dependent care spending account, life, short and long term disability insurance.

This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay for hours worked above 40 in a single work week.

Working Conditions:     

This is not a remote position; work is performed in person on campus. The library is currently open Monday-Thursday 8:00am – 6:00pm and Friday 8:00am – 2:00pm for in-person service. These hours are subject to change.
