Dear MSP Community,
I am writing to you to announce that the Michigan School of Psychology’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously at our last meeting to conduct a national search to appoint the next permanent leader of the Michigan School of Psychology. As you know, on September 23, 2022, the Board of Trustees announced a transition in the presidency and Dr. Brian Spitsbergen was appointed as the Interim President. At that time, the Board made a commitment to the community to conduct a national search when the time was appropriate. Thanks to the enormous amount of progress Dr. Spitsbergen has made in helping to stabilize the institution during his tenure, the Board is confident that now is the time to honor that commitment and to conduct a national search to name the next permanent leader of the Michigan School of Psychology. Dr. Spitsbergen has the full support of the Board of Trustees to lead the institution during the remainder of his tenure, and we have encouraged him to apply for the position.
The Board is committed to conducting a thorough and transparent search to identify a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates to interview for the position. We will be encouraging stakeholder participation throughout the search process. Search committee appointments will begin in the coming weeks and will include students, faculty and staff. It is our goal is to name the next president of MSP by September 1st. The community can expect to be updated on our progress through emails and posts to a presidential search webpage on MSP’s website.
We look forward to engaging you in the search process, and we affirm our commitment to you and to all past and future members of the MSP community to select a president who will uphold the humanistic values of the school’s founders while leading the institution into the future.
Sincerely,
Glen Fayolle
Chair, Board of Trustees
