Internship – Information Technology Assistant

Part-time: 10-15 hours per week

Reports to: Director of Information Technology & Campus Security

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of IT, this position is responsible for providing basic, first line support for end user technology usage such as computers, printers, and copiers. The Technology Assistant provides general “help desk” support with various types of hardware and software and assists in troubleshooting issues with printing, web browsing, file formatting/saving/retrieving, wireless access, mobile devices, etc. The Assistant will create a document of common fixes for internal users’ knowledge as a “self-help” guide.  Provide first level support response to student, faculty, and staff issues with ability to escalate to the Director of IT as needed. This internship will run through the academic year with the possibility of renewal based on performance.

Job Duties:

  • Assist students with resolving common problems such as logging in to email, student accounts or databases, printing, accessing Word/Excel/PowerPoint documents, etc.
  • Provide basic information and problem solving for daily activities
  • Provide hardware and software support to students, faculty, staff – remotely and in-person
  • Configure, maintain, and support PC’s, printers, mobile devices, etc.
  • Set-up video conferencing (Skype, GoToMeeting, etc.) for meetings
  • Respond to general technology questions
  • Assist in system updates or installations
  • Perform computer back-up procedures as directed
  • Assist with classroom technology set-up
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Currently enrolled in a college degree or certificate program in computer technology or a related discipline with a GPA of 2.8 or higher; program must be accredited by the Council for Higher Education or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to lift, move, and connect technology equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
  • Basic knowledge with popular web browsers (IE, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc)
  • Basic knowledge with smart phones, tablet and mobile technology (iOS, Android, Apple, etc.)
